Committees

Introduction

There are two kinds of committes at First Parish:

More information on any committee is available in the Constitution and By-laws or from current charipersons who are listed in the front of the Membership Directoy. If you are interested in joining a committee, speak with its Chair, or the Chair of the Nominating Committee or the Chair of the Parish Committee, as applicable.

All meetings are open to the membership and you are welcome to attend any committee meeting.

Standing Committees

Church Services oversees the various facets that make up the Sunday morning worship: music, flowers, guest speakers, special services and so on.

Religious Education is responsible for the educational activities for the youth of the Parish.

Finance prepares the annual operating budget, supervises the annual canvass/pledge drive, handles the Sunday collection and pledge tracking, approves fundraising plans.

Program plans a variety of social events for the Parish and organizes the period of fellowship after services known as Coffee Hour.

Buildings and Grounds maintains and improves the property and buildings (both at First Parish and at the parsonage). They oversee our renters and rental contracts.

Social Action sponsors Parish programs related to social concerns that may be of international, national or local interest and of a service, advocacy, or informational nature.

Membership welcomes our visitors and friends and works to enhance our membership growth, and orchestrates rides and other help if needed.

Committees of the Parish Committee

Children's Garden Pre-School Liaison oversees the policies and operation of our pre-school which began as Canton's first Kindergarten.

Committee on Ministry meets monthly with the minister to assess the ministry of First Parish.

Denominational Affairs informs the congregation about Ballou-Channing District and Unitarian Universalist Association events and programs.

Memorial Fund expends memorial fund monies in response to written proposals from members for projects to improve First Parish.

Nominating prepares a slate of names for election at the Annual Meeting to the Standing Committees and Parish Committee, and recommends to the Parish Committee individuals to fill mid-term vacancies.

Adult Religious Education plans classes, workshops, and forums that will inspire and inform the adults of the Parish.
