During the month of January, please donate a bag of regular size toiletry items to welcome a new resident in the Domestic Violence Shelter. There is a container in the parlor with toiletry item ideas and a sample bag to view. Thanks to all who have generously contributed toiletry samples, gently used clothes, handmade gloves and hats. Volunteering with the Friday Night Supper Program at the Arlington Street Church in Boston

Arlington Street Church Friday night supper programThe Friday Night Supper Program (www.fridaynightsupper.org) has been serving dinner to homeless and hungry people every Friday for the past 25 years.

The Program was founded through cooperation between members of the Arlington Street Church, Unitarian Universalist; and members of Dignity Boston, a congregation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Catholics.

In 2002, FPUU Canton sent a first team of volunteers to the FNS Program, and then decided to make it a monthly activity. Over the years, more than 30 members, friends, and youth of our congregation have volunteered. Our visits take place on the fourth Friday of each month, September through May. Announcements are made each month in the newsletter, and posted in the Parish Hall (under the Social Action sign).

The purpose of this activity has been to bring our members closer to those who have a hard time surviving in the city because of various circumstances that keep them from finding work. While donating money, clothing, and baked goods is an important contribution, serving dinner provides more than food to people who are as much in need of care and respect for their human dignity.
